Poultry Nutri Drench

I use Nutri-Drench for my sick ducks. I can't tell you how many times it's pulled them through when they quit eating. I have a 7 year old now that hasn't laid for a year. She's just coming out of molt and trying to lay eggs. Passed a couple balloon eggs to my surprise. Usually a bad situation. She stopped eating and I directly feed her a mixture of Drench, MCT oil, and water with a 3ml syringe. Three times a day. She's on about day five like that but she won't eat. My question is can the Drench act a an appetite suppressant? I'm afraid to cut back, you can see the difference when she's drenched.

Hello and Help?
I just purchased a bottle of Nutri-Drench at the recommendation of our feed store. We have sick chick. She's 9 weeks old, suddenly stopped eating and drinking. We are feeding and watering her by dropper. I'm not sure i understand the directions. I've diluted it in her water and we are giving her a dropper full (1 ml) every hour. Can I / should I give her some at full strength/undiluted?
Thanks!

Ok, I just read above, it looks like I can give my sick chick a few drops of the undiluted Nutri-Drench directly into her mouth once every 8 hours for 3 day to give her a boost. Is it still ok to keep it in her regular drinking water diluted or is that too much?
Thanks again!

I have successfully used Nutri-Drench diluted to around 40% drench, 20% MCT oil and 40 % water. It has saved a number of my ducks and recently used it to save a chicken with a bad case of sour crop. I only administer it to a chicken very slowly. One or two drops in their beak and then let them swallow. It takes a lot more time to give to a chicken than a duck. I have never used it with a baby chick. I do use Sav-A-Chick electrolyte additive as well with good results. I never got a reply from the Nutri-Drench rep that started this thread. I am no expert by any means. Best of luck with your little one.

For direct drench/rapid response (direct oral dose) of Poultry Nutri-Drench it's 1cc per 3 pounds of weight given once a day.

Maybe these instructions will be clearer?

Only symptoms not eating/drinking? Is she pooping - what's that like? What's the crop like?

Thank you, she only weighs 1.5 lbs so I can give her .5cc. She's not eating or drinking at all. we are focusing more on keeping her hydrated (not sure how much she needs a day though) We have force fed her a little, her crop is empty. Very little pooping (since not eating) maybe 6 tiny ones all day, they are small dark, stringy and glisten a bit.. We are wondering if she ate a toxic plant in the yard. We have a few, the chickens usually leave them alone but the young ones don't always know.

Her symptoms:
lethargic, mostly standing still with eyes closed
off balance if she tries to walk
not eating or drinking

Can you post a picture of her? Have you ruled out coccidiosis? She's at the right age for that if they hit the ground relatively recently.

I agree with @DobieLover Coccidiosis is a good possibility with those symptoms.

This is Cinnamon.
Today she is slightly improved, she is preening her feathers some and looking around more. She is very unsteady on her feet, like she has vertigo. We thought about coccidiosis and picked up some Corid but the people at the Farm supply store didn't think it sounded like it since she isn't having diarrhea, or bloody stools. We have not given her the corid yet, we wanted to start with the Nutri drench. She still isn't eating or drinking.

Can you put a puppy pad or white paper towels under her so you can get a good look at her droppings? Photos of them would be good.

What's her crop like - is it emptying overnight?

I would give her the PND today and see if she improves.

There are several strains of Coccidia that affect poultry and only 2 of them show as blood in the stool. Most droppings would be loose or have mucous in them. Symptoms and behavior along with what poop looks like are generally what folks go by unless they can get a vet to perform a fecal float.
