POULTRY WATER DRINKING CUP QUESTION..

Hello, I made a DIY Waterier out of PVC and a water drinking cup but they don't seem to be pecking at it to fill it back up..does anyone k

now a trick or a way to get them to do it? Thanks

I love that drinker except in freezing weather.
Just depress the valve till the cup fills with water and they'll quickly learn to use it. When they stick their beaks in to get to the bottom, it will release more water. I don't think it works well for chicks.
You may need to release water from time to time till they figure it out.
It spins off for easy cleaning. There is another drinker cup with a float that stays full but it is a pain to clean.
Are the cups at about chest height?

Yes the cups are at chest height ill just be more patient its only been a week and a half since i installed the water cup

Mine were using them after 2 days. Just keep filling the cups till they get the hang of it. Make sure your system isn't sealed creating a vacuum. Otherwise water won't flow into the cups. I had them in 5 buildings.
I just had to remove them once hard freezes arrived.

the first waterer I tried and still have out in the run is the circular gravity feed ( if that's what you call it) Still my favorite. The next for inside the coop was the bucket. You fill it up, tip it on its side. I raised it up on some lumber. Downfall is it's hard to clean and rusted where the water sits. The chickens liked this one and it didn't take up a lot of room. Third for inside the coop is the cups. They use it, but it seems to be dry everytime I go check it. I am wondering if this one will freeze inside the coop? I also need some ideas for outside water for winter. I heard of putting salt water filled soda bottles in the waterer and it wont freeze. Golf balls in the accessible water to break up ice. So many ideas. I would like to know what people have had success with.

I don't think salt water bottles will keep your fount thawed. If the salt is very high in the bottle, it may remain thawed down into the 20s but it will do nothing for the salt free water.
