So my four week old Narragansett poults had their first outdoor adventure today. I put them on grass with my kids on babysitting duty while I cleaned the brooder.

I asked the woman that I got these eggs from when they can go outside. She said she starts letting them on the ground for about 15 mins/day once they are about four weeks old. When can they get more outside time?

All three:

The big boss had to come over and dance for them

And this guy was a little camera shy:

We let ours at 8-10 weeks old for the entire day and lock up at night and then 14 - 16 weeks or so they are out 24/7 with the others. if the weather is good and not wet they will be fine, but the can get wet and chilled and die easly at that age if not careful.

Thanks Harp! That is useful info.

I understand that poults are more fragile, but with no prior experience with them it is difficult to guage just how fragile they are.

When can I start building on the 15 mins/day or should I just stay at that level till they are 8 weeks old?

Awwwhhhh They are cute.. Ilove the last picture with the shy one the best.

Oh jebus.. my BO rooster does the same thing to my turkey baby..he dances and does the head low to the ground thing just like yours..Does the rooster want to kill him or is he in love? Thats the reason our turkey babe cant go out yet with the guineas during the day.I am afraid the Roo will kill him. What ya think? aggression or love? I like to know before I let my turkey out and have him become Roo fodder. If he kills my turkey.. Roo is gone for sure. I put so much effort and love and time into the baby . To have him get killed by this rooster.. hrrrm.. bad bad juju.
I can also wait another month so turkey gets bigger then let him out. But he screams for his guinea friends when they freerange while he/she is locked up in the pen.

And the rooster tried to have sexy time with guineas now too. He grabbed one of them.. I just hope it wasnt a male guinea. Poor thing will be scarred for life. He didnt actually do the deed but he sure tried.
Sorry for the derailment..
Here he is chilling on the couch during a storm .Didnt want him/her to get cold and wet..spoiled!!I still cant tell what sex it is.. Allthough he is getting these wee little carunkles on his neck
