I’ve raised turkeys chicks ducks and geese for many years but never had this and don’t know what to do. This is the first time I’ve brooded turkeys as usually let mum do the work. They started off for the first 3 weeks in the house big brooder box, heat plate etc etc. Because I value my sleep and they’d become nocturnal pulling the cardboard box to bits and dust bathing etc at stupid o clock I moved them to my outside breeding pen. So I set it up nice and cosy with heating and all they need. This is the second day and they are not happy at all. Constant shouting! They slept by the door all night the coldest place in there! Nowhere near the temp they still need. The only time they will go to the heat source is when I do then they all fall asleep and are very content. I moved them out the house as needed sleep and bar now moving in my outside pen I don’t know what to do. I wondered if I should make a big cardboard ring to go around the heater but even then I worry they will try get over it as they are trying to fly up the door when I’m outside. As they are bourbon reds they can fly pretty high at this age so would need one hell of a ring with a mesh roof and would end up being too dark. Anyone else had this separation issue? My goslings thought I was mum but at least had the sense to get under the heat when they were cold after I moved them outside.

@R2elk would be the best to answer this question ......I only have experience with BB poults that can be very loud but i always brood them in the shed with a lamp or cozy coop plate depending on ambient temps

I’ve just set my gas brooder up which I hate as drinks too much gas abd is only really good if your doing 200 chicks. Warned the air up a bit more in there but still not a good enough temp by that door and they won’t shut up. Usually a sign they are cold.

Well I ended up late last night so worried I built a huge high wall out of cardboard and penned them up near the heat source and they settled down then. It’s darker than I’d like but at least they won’t die of the cold! Silly birds!
