Pour on ivermectin help

Hello I have ivermectin pour on for cattle 5mg/ml Every video I have watched has a different amount of drops per chicken one will say 2 drops per birds another 4 and another said 6 to 9 one even said 3 for hens and 4 for roos I have chickens that are over a year and some that are 4-6 months old. And 2 roos on is a barred rock Cochin mix and one is a Camani. Most of my hens are average size the are sexlinks, barred rock, EE, blue splash Marans, Ayam Cemani and one small silkie, I'm thinking 2 drops on her and 4 on the others except the 4-6 month olds 3 drops and 5 on my roos as they are bigger. Does this sound safe and effective for mites? Will this amount be effective to deworm as well. Thanks

It would be better to use an anthelmintic like Safeguard (Fenbendazole) or Valbazen (Albendazole) to deworm your flock. Dosing is below.

Ivermectin is an effective treatment for mites, but some are reporting it's not that effective for deworming. It may still treat Roundworms..
Dosing for Ivermectin is by weight.


To treat most worms that poultry can have except for Tapeworm - Safeguard dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days in a row.
---OR---
Valbazen dose is 0.08ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.

Hello I am treating for mites. I have not seen worms in poop just thought was good for treating worms as well. Thanks for the reply

If treating for Mites, you can dose them by weight according to the link posted previously. Be sure to re-dose in 10-14 days. Mites do have to bite the bird in order for the medication to kill them.

It would be wise to clean out housing/coop and treat with a Permethrin based spray, making sure to burn or throw away bedding (do not compost if infested). Treat all nooks/crannies, nesting boxes, roosting bars, etc. Repeat in 5 day intervals.
