You do not want to start assisting too early or the Duckling will not thrive and you could cause a bad bleed....It could stay in that position for hours....Right now it is resting and absorbing the yolk...They rest lots before they ever start to zip out..It could be 24 hours before it hatches after it externally pips the shell....

I had one a couple of months ago that died in its shellI always panic now, will it be ok with blood?
 
Hi , it pipped at 6am and I chipped a small amount away at 10am, I could see blood in the veins thoughHaven't touched it since then x
