Power Cut

We have about 18 eggs incubating. They are due to hatch on 16th of September. About three days ago we had a power cut for 3 hours. Will this effect the incubating process? Are our chicks likely to be dead now? Does anyone know please?

So sorry! The same thing happened here, except these were at day 8, we have a backup generator BUT what good was it in the middle of he the night and I didnt wake up!!! Thankfully I had sterilized rocks/stones and had them in the bottom of the bator to keep heat when I turned manually! I candled today and one is alive, HOWEVER these were all shipped and scrambled air cells bubbly and rolled side to side.... my temp was at 90 when I ran down to start the generator, it was back up in about a half hour, so I think the internal temps held.. BUT I did note that I will get a water weezle to keep better track of internal temp so IF IT ever happens again I will know for sure! But the rocks turned out an excellent idea but sterilize first.... I have a styro bator but I hear some people put the rocks in the water wells... Good Luck and let me know how it goes!!

We had a nest in the Chicken house that a guinea was sitting on for weeks. throughout the time other hens kept adding eggs to the stack, then two, then three hens were on the nest. Suddenly they all ABANDONED the nest. we watched for TWO days. they just gave up. Wel l l l l....... I candled the eggs and most still had movement, and various stages of development, some had no development. I put everything that had ANY signs of movement, or no development at all into the incubators. We had guineas hach out every couple of days for about 4 weeks. Out of about 35+ eggs, only about 5 did not make it. some were weak, and we helped several out of the shell. Candled evey day and moved to the hatcher as we thought they were ready.

Sorry for the long answer to the easy question, but I would say your chances are good.

I was worrying about this same thing and I don't even have my incubator yet LOL. I'm planning on plugging it into a UPS battery backup so if the power fails I'll have some time before the incubator quits, hopefully long enough for the power to come back on.

UPS is Uninteruptible Power Supply
basically a really big battery you plug your computers into.

As long as you didn't open it they will be fine. 3 hours is nothing to worry about

I have had my incubator unplugged all night (10-12 hours) when I found out, the temperature was room temperature. The next day, the neighborhood lost power for more than 2 hours. They came out fine.
