DH and I are looking for some land. We came across 11 acres, in our price range and location. Problem is, some big power lines run through the property. Not huge, just big. DH and I will have no more kids and DS is almost 16. Ive been reading on the net about power lines and childhood cancers and seems like nobody really knows. Whats your opinion?

I certainly wouldn't know.
Maybe it depends on how "rusty" you are?

We have lines running right down our property. I have lived under them for 30 + years. There are no cancers in our family. I have never even heard of this. Now, I have to research this.

Well, DH has worked 10 feet from powerlines (he trims the trees by them) for...ummm...(too early for math), somewhere in the vicinity of 20 years. Can't get much closer, and he spends a LOT of hours a LOT closer to them than most people. He's only been seriously electrocuted once, but he's gets "poked" occasionally when it arcs into a tree he's in.

I hate his job

He has no issues that I can pin on powerlines

No issues with *cough reproduction cough* - DD is perfectly normal and healthy. That was a concern when we decided to try for children. He has no cancers or irregularities - he has to have a physical for work every year, and other than a bum knee and back injury, he's quite healthy.

We live near a power line right of way. It runs over our large front yard and not of us have cancer. DH and his family have lived here his entire life. So I think it would be safe.

All this is very comforting. This is forclosed on property and the plat looks pretty nice. They are not so big as to hear them hum when standing near them. There is a nice creek that runs the back of the property line and its only about 4 minutes from DS's school. Im thinking we need to take a better look at this!
