power out

That's great! Looking forward to a hatch report here in a few days. Glad you had a relatively easy way to get them incubating again. That had to be tough being at work unable to do anything for them.

That's great, but do be prepared for a possible late hatch. Because they were cooler than they should've been for that day. Good luck and keep us posted!

I am so curious about your hatch. My mother bought me an incubator for my birthday back in April. I bought eggs from several different people, putting them in at different times. Started out doing everything wrong. Was doing the dry hatch method. Here in upstate NY ,the humidity stayed pretty close to 16%, so every couple of days I put in a tbls or so of water and brought it up to 35%. I watched them constantly, turned them every few hours, had trouble sleeping, came home from work during the middle of my work day, you get the picture. Even though I was told not to, I continued to add a drop of water here and there to bring the humidity up. Day 20 came, the first 4 hatched 100 % hatch. A week later 2 hatched and 3 pipped out and had drowned. Humidity (still at 35% with me adding a little water) ( A week or so after these 2 hatched I was moving the light and a stick that I had used fell into my brooder and killed one of the 2 barred rocks. :( Finally the last 12 eggs starting hatching and I had a 75 % hatch rate with these. However, the last chick got stuck in the shell and I helped her out. My rule is to never help as 25 yrs ago I did and the chick was deformed. I'm glad I did because this chicks coloring was much different than the rest.
I was exhausted after hatching these out but then was given a mix of eggs of various colors and sizes. I put them in, decided to truly try the dry hatch method never adding any water. By now it was almost June so humidity was up to 30% in our home naturally.
I rarely turned them (sometimes not at all in a day or 2) About 6 - 8 days into the hatch the power went out for 24 hours, the temp getting down to 70. I had my husband go out and buy a new generator because of the eggs. (We used one once 10 yrs ago in the ice storm) Got the temp back up after all this time, still not being faithful in turning the eggs, still no water. (I should add that a few days after the power came back on I candled them and 5 out of 12 were not fertile. I couldn't see any movement but could see shapes) On day 19 I had 1 hatch and day 20 brought 5 more. I am sure the last one developed but never checked it out.
My whole point being, don't give up. I spent so much time with the first hatches, I was so exhausted. I swore I would never do it again. Now, I can't wait until next year. My biggest complaint is the baby chick dust that I'm still trying to clean out of our bathroom. WHAT A MESS!!!!!!!!!!!!! But well worth it. My grandson always names our chicks and to makes it so easy for Grandma, he names them all Sally.

From here on out, I will always do the dry hatch method. They just popped right out of those eggs. (All but 1)
Also, the mix of eggs have turned out to be a silkie frizzle, cochin and Phoenix . They are so cute!
I need to change my profile name as we are no longer Sally 8.

Well My eggs didnt hatch I put 11 more chicken eggs back in and some one gave me some 19 quail eggs the other day so I put them in also so hoplfully thish hatch will go better than the last

How are things going? One of my littlest chicks, now at 3 mo or so has started crowing. My, he needs voice lessons. Hope all has or will go well. It becomes so frustrating at times, doesn't it? My husband, who has been against all this since the beginning and tells everyone how much he hates chickens, bolted up in bed around 3 am when we started having a storm and said,"You didn't close the chick's door did you?". I hadn't, as I wasn't feeling well and went to bed early, thinking I would get back up after dark to close it.. He literally ran out in the rain, thunder and lightning, stark naked and closed the chicks door. Now, that what I call love.

That is a very good rate. Congrats! Can we see some pics?

Well, power was out here about 24 hours. Temp in incubator got down to 65 degrees. I live in Michigan :( Eggs have been in the incubator about 4 days. Trash them?
