Power outage

I have 5 chicks, about one week old, in the brooder. At 1:30 in the morning the power went out. Thankfully, the nighttime temps are in the low 60s currently, but still too cold for chicks if the power doesn't come back on soon.
So, I found an empty box from a case of beer, put a mason jar with a tea candle in each end, a little bedding, and the chicks in the middle, and they seemed relatively comfortable until the power came back on a couple of hours later.
I'm thinking about keeping a bunch of those hand warmer packs on hand for the future.

Wouldn't the hot water tank still have hot water in it for a short period..

Oh dear... uh, do you happen to have a fire pit, some firewood and a pot? You could do it the old fashioned way....
