Power outage!!!

Thankfully it was only out 3 hours. Temp was at 79.8 when it kicked on so not as bad as I feared. It could have been out much longer. I had a friend that was out for at least two hours longer than me.

I will candle later tonight to see how everyone faired.
happy to hear it was a short outage! i’ve had that happen several times 2-6 hours at different stages of incubation with no huge impact on overall hatch. it’s always scary though!!

I am a newbie to this site and to chickens. Here in Africa where power cuts are a common event every day we keep a fully-charged gel cell 100 amp-hour battery and a 1,000-watt inverter on hand to power lights, fans, PCs, etc.

What part of africa? Your the first person jve seen on byc from africa, what kind of ducks are kept in africa?

Alot of people here use Back ups for PC

They plug in then the pc plugs into it, itll power an incubator for hours, i find them at thrift stores all the time i have one on my aquarium too

Glad your power outage was minor!

When it happened last year it was hotter than hades when the power died. The temp didn’t really drop much. So I don’t think it effected my hatch much at all then. This time it was a 50 degree night so it was a tad scary. Makes me long to go off the grid with solar power.
Well, speaking as someone that has solar panels on the house unless you've got about $50K it won't do you any good.

You can have solar panels which will help with your electric bill for about $25K but if you don't buy the batteries, another $25K, when the power goes out so does the solar.
