Help! We lost power 30 minutes ago. The estimated time for the crews to get it back on is 5:45 (1hr 45min from now).

Of course I have eggs in the incubator. It is day 7. I have a fire going in the wood stove, should I unplug the incubator and bring it near the wood stove? Or will they be ok without power for a couple hours??

I’m so worried!

They should be okay. Remember sometimes momma hens get off the nest for a while.

If you’re extra worried, putting them near the wood stove won’t hurt anything. Just make sure that you monitor the temperature and they don’t get too hot.

You can also wrap a towel or something similar around your incubator to help hold in heat.

Thanks again for all of your quick replies, I will have a better game plan if we happen to lose power again! Knock on wood we don’t, this was a fairly spontaneous hatch but I second guessed myself as soon as I put the eggs in the incubator as we tend to have rain/wind storms in December.

This outage was actually due to a huge fire in town which is really sad, I think I read that a plywood mill is on fire.
