The power went out 30 minutes ago. I have 3 bators full of day 8 eggs. After 20 or so minutes we surrounded them with hot water bottles and towels to try and keep them warm. What else can I do? What can I expect the survival rate to be? I'm solidly panicking rn so any help would be greatly appreciated!

All I have are the bottles, and I refill them every time the cool, so about 2 hours. There isn't much I can work with. Do you think any of them could survive?

If You Can Keep Them Warm Enough Until Your Power Comes Back. They May Be Delayed But Could Still Hatch ...

I had 22 eggs in an incubator for a week when the Snowpocalypse hit last February. Intermittent power for 4-1/2 days, eggs definitely hit room temp ateast a half dozen times. Power would come back on for 15 or 30 minutes and the bator would be beeping and warning of low temps, the house got down to 53*, etc.

15 of the eggs hatched. One died from an infected umbilical hernia. 14 strong chicks are 2 weeks old today.

Do what you can while the power is out and just resume incubation as if there was no interruption. Extend the lockdown if they don't start pipping on day 21. Don't throw in the towel until candling shows no chance of life.

Update! We spent the night changing water bottles every hour, so we were super tired in the morning. The temps were pretty unstable, but we managed to keep them between 80-102 degrees (it changed a lot and some spots were cooler). We candled them two days later, and 15 out of the 22 eggs were still alive! That was way better than I expected. Anyways, they're due to hatch in a few days and I'm not sure how many will actually pull through. There could be some internal issues that I don't know about. That happened with an old incubator I used a few years back, and the weird temps caused the poor chicks to be completely deformed and only two hatched (one of which died soon and the other has very obvious issues). But hopefully at least a few will be able to pull through to hatch day! We're already picking funny names for them like "Darkness" and "Dear Park" (we used Deer Park bottles to keep them alive haha).
