We have had 2 power outages since I put my eggs in the bator a week ago. One was over night and dropped to about 90 degrees, the other was last night about 5 hours and after sticking the bator in my gas oven for some warmth, it did drop under 90. has anyone else had this happen, and did your eggs still hatch? I have waited about 2 maybe 3yrs for the eggs in there and so want those chicks.. Im hoping someone else has had this happen and everything will be fine. ..

Of course this happens after you wait for eggs. The same thing happened to me 2 years ago - the result? I am not sure. They were shipped eggs, yet to be candled, but out of 30 eggs, 5 hatched. Not sure if it was the power, or the eggs, or more likely a combo of both. Keep hoping though. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do but wait and see.

I picked these eggs up in person. They were not shipped and I think that helps. I have heard that shipped eggs are iffy at best. The lady I got them from lives about 25 miles away and is very good with her eggs. That also helps. My main worry is the low temps, twice, and for more then just an hour or 2. My neighbor called me at 2AM last night to tell me the power was off, she was worried about my eggs and chicks in the brooder.. I let her know the bator was in the oven and I was not brining in 70 half grown chicks LOL.. they were on their own.. building is insolated.. warm, they would be fine.. the eggs.. OH my the eggs.. LOL.

Well, that is good news about them not being shipped. Maybe being she is so close, she will take pity on you and get you more eggs? Mine were from across the country.

If it is any consolation, I think my temp when down to 86 degrees or so the first time at like 2 days. Then the power went off again from a storm for a couple hours at 6 or 7 days, but the drop was only to 95 degrees. The thing that really, really ticked me off? The first one was a planned outage by MN Power. AND, it was almost all day! Nice. That was a rough Spring...

Oh, and the eggs cost me $140 with shipping. Those were some very expensive chicks.

WOW.. that was expensive.. to bad the electric company didn't tell you, you could have taken the eggs to a friends and plugged them in. I have no doubt that my friend will get me more eggs. I have already let her know I want more next month so all is good that way and she only charged me 1.00 an egg. So its all good. I just wanted these chicks so bad, waited so long and now don't know if they will deform due to the temp variants? Guess I will see about the 21st of April.

We had an outage last weekend, it was day 14 for my eggs. The outage lasted about 4 hours. My little guys started hatching last night, and currently I have 7 chicks, 2 zipped, and a few pipped (out of 20). And, to top it off, this is my first hatching/incubating experience! I do credit all you knowledgeable people here, I've been reading the posts for quite some time now, and actually felt very prepared.

I had a similar thing happen a few years ago. I had 2 incubators going at the time. I threw blankets and towels over them both.
My temp dropped to around 90 too.
I lost a couple of eggs but the rest did fine.
