At 1 last night the power went off. I have 2 incubators in my room with eggs on day 16, 14, 6 and 7. We wrapped blankets around them until I read that you should just remove the tops to drop temp and make embryos go dormant. I did that about 5 minutes after one. It came back on an hour later. It was on for 20 minutes, then off for another half hour. Came back on until 8:15 a.m. Went of for 10 minutes, now on again. Did I lose my batch??????????

Why is the power going off? Can you plug it in to a generator or something? You very well could lose some of the younger ones. Leave the top off. Even if the power comes on for a bit. It's bad to let them cool off and then heat back up so much.

Power went off due to over a foot of heavy, wet snow. We didn't have a generator. I've seen crews working so I'm guessing it'll be on from now on. We did keep the tops off, and when we replaced them when the power returned, the incubators gradually heated up. What would you guess? 50% lost? 5% lost? So upset...........

It depends. My family suddenly had to leave on a 5 hour trip and I had some shipped Bobwhite quail eggs in my incubator on day 4. I had to take them with me, there was no one to watch them. I just packaged up all the eggs in a bubble wrap lined box and covered them with a few towels. I held them up the whole time because the road was super bumpy. I thought they would all die, and it was only 65 degrees in the vehicle. We had to stop for about 3 hours on the way there because the truck was having issues and we had to fix them, and then we had lunch. They had been unheated for almost 9 hours by time we got there, and I figured they would have rattled loose from the drive. I let them warm to room temperature for an hour or so and then put them in. We stayed for a week and then made the same trip back again. Out of 13 eggs I had 12 hatch, and these were shipped eggs too. There's still hope, I wish you the best of luck!

Ok, good to know. That's about the temp of the room they are in. These eggs are shipped too. I've already had to cull so many I don't want to lose any more. I'm mostly worried about the fact the power was on and off so many times. But it was gradual cooling and warming.

How many eggs are in there right now?
