******ADDED BETTER PICTURES BELOW*****PLEASE HELP! THANK YOU!!! We currently have three rental hens and one has developed white on her comb, along with black spots. It's been getting worse and after closer inspection the other two are starting toget a few tiny black dots. I was really hoping to keep this one and another one, but I don't want to put my six chicks at risk. Opinions?? Help, please!! :fl

The pictures are fuzzy so hard to tell for sure if it is pox, peck marks, but the white can be either dry skin or favus. Rub a little fungus cream such as miconazole or lotrimin on it daily to see if it helps. Pox is usually biege to tan with darker scabs, and peck marks are jet black after blood has dried. Here are3 pictures to look at--the first is typical fowl pox, the second is peck wounds, and the third (look at picture #3 in first post) is favus:

I spent about 6 hours last night reading through this site and a zillion others. I've seen all those pictures and simply can't tell. It's a hybrid of all of those! It's possible it's from being pecked at, but I've noticed the other 2 are developing tiny black spots on their combs, too. The guy we rented these from said he's seen the black spots before (but didnt offer an answer and I forgot to ask-), but said he'd never seen the white- which I have trouble believing if he raises 50+ chicks a year! OK, I'm going to try and get another picture to post (the phone on my camera sucks!) and will post. In the meantime I'm going to be using the lotion, can't hurt, right?

OK, here are some better pictures...the black spots are warty/scabby. but the white seems to just be discoloration, or like a dusting....
She acts totally normal, although very docile and sweet (we've only had her about a month). This has been there for at least 3 weeks, so from what I read, this should be the worst of it, right? And it's on its way out? If the chicks get it, could they get a worse strain??

Now I know why you were confused--it does look like all three. I would use the miconazole or lotrimin, and it should not hurt if it is fowl pox, which will go away in several weeks.

Thank you for making me feel like Im not a total idiot for not figuring this out and being confused!! OK, will try the cream and see how that goes! If anyone else has thoughts, PLEASE let me know! I'm also concerned about mixing them with 4 week old chicks?!?!
