not sure what they are. A quick search suggests either Pox, mites or fighting?? Any thoughts on what they are and if I should be treating them with something would be much appreciated.
Hmm, I can't say I have seen marks in that pattern before. I think they may be scabs from pecking. My hens and one rooster sometimes peck each other's combs and they scab over and turn blackish and then heal pretty quickly. There isn't much that can be done for dry pox anyway. It never hurts to check a chicken over for mites of course, and evidence tends to show up around the vent.
I agree..looks like fighting to me...have seen these kind of marks before in my Roosters. They can be quite aggressive when they peck at each other...any sign of fresh blood should be coated in blue kote...
