i am just enquiring about the pox virus.
is there any small treatment that can be made and also can chickens survive it???

thanks..

Howdy!
I am new to this site and chickens, and we are going through our first round of pox ourselves.
It started on ours with a cople girls getting a hard lump on their nostril...
after a LOT of reading and asking questions...and a couple days for the virus to grow, we have determined it has to be the pox.
Best to my lack of knowledge

, there is no cure..it is like chicken pox to humans. It will run the course and the chickens will not ever get it again.
They seem to be healthy, except for the nasty looking bumps, and happy to boot.
The eggs are fine to eat and I am not sure yet about the meat..if thinking about butchering during the virus.

There is a lot of info in this forum and in the FAQ section...just start reading

We have 27 X Rocks that are 6 months old who have the pox right now. The Barred Rocks, 27 of those also, at 4.5 mts old, who do not seem to be catching it.

In the horror of the sight of our babies, apparently it is as old as chickens themselves and there isn't a whole lot to do for it but let it ride.

Out of the horror, we did get our first egg this evening though

so I guess it isn't too bad on them.

best of luck and, again, this forum is wonderful!!
There is also some good info on a site called The Classroom @ The Coop.

Good luck!!
