Predator? Confused.

I’ve heard worse in the alley when I had a female cat. Idk. I’m not sold. I wish my husband would throw wild animals across the lawn for me though….hawwwwt 🤣

My chickens have free ranged for years now and have learned to hide. I worry more about canines than anything in the sky. A bird of prey will only kill one at a time.
What kind of places do they have to hide? I’m taking care of my brother’s chickens now, but there will come a time when I will get my own. I’ll need to build the coop and run, but I’d like them to free range if possible. Do you put things out for them to hide under, or are there natural hiding places for them?

Our chickens have both, man made items and natural. Their space is massively protected by natural trees, shrubs, plants, lawn chairs, benches, covered gardens, stacks of organic materials collected from storms, i.e., tree branches, shrubbery clippings from us pruning, logs from felled trees, etc. Their perimeter is covered and the middle is a smattering of lots of places to hide.

You can accomplish this with lawn furniture and tables bought from second hand stores, items from yard sales, etc. Old flower pots turned upside down work well. If you can get your hands some wood pallets you can create a safe place for them to hide.
Watch for sales at a local nursery or the big box stores at end of season to buy some shrubs natural to your area.

Ensure anything you use or create cannot topple over when someone jumps up onto or jumps down from it and that no one can get trapped inside.

Don't be too disappointed in him. No one is gonna pick up a bobcat, hang onto it for a few steps and then throw it.
That's hard enough with a feral house cat.
