Hi my name is Judy and my daughter and I wanted to start raising a few chickens. The space we had in mind is fenced area behind my daughters garage. The fence is about 5 feet high and made of metal. We are building a coop and we thought this would be a good place for the chickens to roam around free without us putting in a run. The only problem I have is there is no roof on this area. It is about 10 X 12 area. I am worried about predators getting over the top of the fence. At first I was thinking of stringing rope around to deter eagles and hawks but that is not going to work for racoons etc. Would putting an electric wire around the top be enough protection or does anybody have any other ideas

I would use a steel wire fencing (that’s what I used at least). Some will suggest hardware. Mine has 2x4 inch squares in it. Others may have other ideas to help. It would depend on your location also what you would need.

I will try to get a picture of it tomorrow.
Some pics would surely help.
