Predator problem

The other day my father was checking his chickens and something had pulled a chickens head through the fence and just ate the head. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and what type of predator you think it might be.

A couple of years ago I lost a couple of my older chicks to a feral cat it did the same thing just ate the head off.

Another person on here had the same problem not to long ago and found out it was a coon. They are very clever. Was this during the day or during the night? If night, I'd say that those chickens need to be locked in tight every night. That coon knows where dinner is now and will be back. You can bet on that one!

This is the reason NOT to have chain-link fence or chickenwire for your runs.

Be pro-active about predators - don't wait until your whole flock is gone before you make your run/coop predator-proof by using hardware cloth, or strong small-holed wire fencing.
