Predator proof!

I have a smaller coop I was thinking of using the hardware clothe under it. Would you suggest that I sit the coop on top of the wire? I was planning on moving the coop around.....
Any suggestions!!!!

Welcome to BYC!

Having chickens stand on wire is not good for their legs or feet. So I would suggest you work from the edges down into the ground. You might want to ask this question in our Coop and Run Construction forums for help with this...

Hello and Welcome To BYC! X2 on check out the Coop design forum TwoCrows linked. Some people just leave tractors open on the bottom, or put wire out to the sides, others do put wire on bottom, mostly to keep dogs etc out if something manages to turn over or dig under the tractor... you might do a search, there are some short threads https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/201974/chicken-wire-under-chicken-tractor

Don't know if this will answer your question or not but we have a small coup with 6 hens. We put a wire fence, smaller than chicken wire, underestimate the bottom of our run and underneath the coop. The areas fir our chickens are completely covered with this wire mesh, including all the windows in the coop. Have not seen any snakes or other predators yet.

Replying to the comment that wire is not good for chickens to stand on, we put sand in the run. So the chickens are not walking on the wire but the sand.
