Also I would include an apron around the base to protect from diggers. The grass will grow through it so it shouldn't be a problem with mowing. I would put an apron completely around the coop and pen. I have electric wires around my coops and pens and nothing has gotten past the hot wires. There are some places where I dug a foot deep trench along the bottom of the fence and buried some wire going down a foot and attached it to the bottom of the fence.. Good luck...
