Predator question

They were laying with their necks bent and their heads backwards. Some puncture wounds. No blood. No feathers on the ground. The chickens were fine in the kennel next to this one.

This is not funny. I am devastated. These were my pets. I loved them and was crying and sobbing when I found out.
I am so sorry you lost your birds - for what its worth, I dont care where you are located. X

I am going to get hardware cloth. This is how the pens were advertised and had good reviews for protection. I let my guard down and it’s my fault. Any advice for the ground? I’ll put the hardware cloth along the side.
I think we would struggle to find anyone on here who has not learned something the hard way.

I know I have. ☹

I am in the process of putting up the exact same pen. I have had electric netting from Premier and still lost birds from something that doesn't care if it's being shocked, probably coyote. I don't have mink or weasel but lots of other predators. If it were mine, I would think dog, since everything else would at least eat some or most or carry it off. These looked killed for sport. This has helped me know I need a way to secure the latch on my new pen.

A lot of people are missing the point!

1) Nobody is trying to be cruel.

2) If you build a weak coop, your birds will be vulnerable.

3) Predators vary by area, so help others help you by indicating your geographical location. Location is also helpful for relocations, pen types, other parasites, etc, etc.

4) Death is certain, levity is optional. ☯

Perhaps you could consider that you might be missing the point ?

You seem to be very focused on being heard and making your point about the OP's lack of location.

Thats your focus, your choice but its not the purpose of this post.

OP has come out to a devastating scene and is looking for support - even with their location broadcast in a way you approve of, that would not change their awful experience, one I wouldnt wish on anyone.

Your insistence on pursuing your point is tone deaf to me.

While I agree there have been some insensitive remarks.....

Having a persons general location helps greatly in trying to determine which predators are in their area.

I am very sorry for the loss of your babies . I would vote for bobcat or fox. Our chickens free range on our farm. One morning our dog was going nuts. The chickens were out in the lower field. A a pair of foxes were attacking them. They would kill one, move to the next, kill it, move to the next etc...... The foxes were in a complete killing frenzy like a pack of dogs. Birds were dying in my arms, there were 4 of us trying to chase them off but it took forever. They kept circling back to get the rest. I lost 16 adult chickens. The neighbor took care of the foxes after they dug under his coop and killed 102 birds in one night. My birds only free range under supervision now.
I was on my way home from the store one morning. I passed my husband on my way home. He probably had only left our home 4 minutes before. I pull in the driveway to see 4 dead ducks, one duck on it's back dying and the bobcat running away with one in his mouth. All the ducks had small puncture wounds. The cat ripped the corner of the fence down climbed in and killed everyone. The ducks now have 7 strands of electric wire and a 7 foot fence. My trail cam shows bobcats, coyotes, raccoons and bears on a regular basis. No fox in months. We take care of the raccoons. I trapped the bobcat with the body of one of the dead ducks.

no treatment like lead treatment IMO, that's wild that the bobcat was so bold, must have been laying there waiting.
