predator resiant roosting boxes

For nesting boxes, would it makes sense to make the sides and back more solid - maybe solid panels with ventilation/egg collection holes covered with the hardware cloth?

just thinking as I type here...

Doesn't look like anything can get to them though, put a lock on it and not even two legged predators could get them.

reply to mr. red rooster:chicken droppings don't go through 1/4" hardware cloth, especially when coverd with straw. Can be cleaned out very easily by using a garden trowel, or equivalant tool.

reply to: Arlene 453: In hot climates, and or high temperatures, chickens need 100% ventilation. It easier to decrease ventilation than increase it, that is why they do not have any solid material blocking ventilation. Construction is solid enough to allow whatever covering is needed. My friend uses a 4x8 as a solide covering and a tarp to keep birds from getting wet during heavy Texas rains, which works quite well. Also serves as a good wrap during cold temperatures.

To those who had questions about falling chicken droppings, please view pictures no.6 from the top, it shows the 1/4" wire on floor of cage. I thank everyone for their interest and input.

Reply to Txchiknranchers: Boxes are 2x2x2ft. And the floor can be reinforced by using 1/4" hardware cloth over 1/2 hardware cloth, raising the weight capacity of the floor to approximately 20lbs. Thank You for your interest.

So what are you going to sell them for? Price range that is since they are for housing stuff.

Looks pretty good. I would be more interested in something that the girls could go in and out free will but still be secured from snakes. Sigh....the never ending quest

The cages look pretty secure but I honestly wouldn't keep my chickens in them. I honestly want my chickens to have a reg. roost and nesting box. Please don't take offense but you asked for opinions and that is just mine. You did a good job making a cage. I just don't have an animal I would keep in it.
