Predators in the South

What is being overlooked is that free ranging requires eternal vigilance. A strong coop is the start but never forget that to be successful you need to periodically clean house of all the loose varmints. Sure the predators will eventually return but the fact that they return is proof that you are NOT harming the environment by managing the predator numbers.
There is a word for this. That word is INTEGRATED pest management. Read about it.

I personally don’t have predators that try for my adults (I live in town) but my friend says that he loses a bird every week. The only personal experience is when a stray cat killed my blue game chick. (RIP Tiny. :(
 
i think it depends where you are.
i live in Canada and some people free range where i live others (like me) can not.
where i live (the prairies) we have coons, weasels, mink, foxes, coyotes, hawks and eagles are the main ones.

but if you live up north from us (the boreal forest) you have a lot more predators. for example

lynx, cougar, wolf, coyote,fox,raccoon, black bear, mink, weasels, fisher, wolverines, marten, wild hogs
