Acid, that's the sort of dark blue color I often see. It is also what I think of for the BLW. With that being said, I am absolutely smitten with the Splash version - the contrast is divine.
You're right, the pigeon blue can be difficult to distinguish from Splash if you don't know what to look for. It's supposed to be a touch darker and the hackle feathers are a different shade. But still, while I may prefer pigeon blue hens, I really, really, really prefer the dark blue roosters. It's a catch-22.
Turbo, I know it's not the official standard. I didn't know that there was a different standard being looked at by the WBA - I'll have to check it out. Currently I've been more concerned with body type, size, the red, and the lacing - the shade of blue hasn't been terribly important in the grand scheme of things. I figure it's easier to get a darker blue bird than it is to add a pound to the size of your birds. But having seen everyone's pictures and reading the WIP standard (which is also listed under the BYC BLR page) I started to wonder what the general consensus actually is.
