Pregnant and not wanting to stop eating my fresh eggs! Advice please!!!!!

hi Lizzie, when I was pregnant with my son I was told to only eat shop bought eggs, because here in the UK they're all pasteurised, and to not eat them if they were soft-cooked or raw (so no sneaking the cake mixture before I cooked it)

I don't eat many eggs anyway, but I would have made sure they were that day's and hard boiled them if I was going to.

I did sneak cake mixture anyway though!

I think its wise to be careful but also with the amount of things us brits are told not to eat during pregnancy is ridiculous! half of the things are consumed before we discover we are pregnant anyway! (well in my case as im addicted to pate and soft poached eggs!) Im no longer eating pate and im avoiding deep sea fish such as sword fish etc, id like to think that the odd soft poached egg wont harm me, i never could stand hard boiled eggs at the best of times! I bought some liver recently as my gran always made me eat it during pregnancy for extra iron, only to discover thats on the list of donts now too! soon we will all be living on salad leaves and egg free, gluten free. taste free rubbish! I agree that we should be more careful when pregnant but i think sometimes its taken too far.
I will lower the amount of eggs i eat but i certainly dont think i will be taking them off the menu completely! and as for cake batter....................................licking the spoon is the best part!!!!!!

Either your chickens carry salmonella or they don't. If eating soft boiled eggs from you girls has never made you sick, chances are they don't carry it and you're good to go!

Salmonella is passed on from the hen through the contents of the egg and has little or nothing (in this case) to do with the age of the egg.

Eat away, my dear! And count yourself lucky - far luckier than your counterparts who must eat hard boiled simply because they buy at the shop down the way!

And congratulations on number 5!

I know! if you can't eat the cake mixture off the spoon when you've finished putting it in the tins or whatever, then what's the point in making cakes? ;-)

the list of "thou shall not eat!" has grown in just 2 years too, though this time I'm allowed peanuts.

last time around, we thought I'd lost the baby (turns out I still had one in there - Arwyn), and so I went nuts eating everything i hadn't been allowed (except liver, bleugh!)... then when a scan showed Arwyn was still there I felt guilty, "if he has peanut allergies, it's my fault." blahblah....
He has no allergies as yet, and loves peanut butter.

Oh, and "no mayonaise" - but I kept craving mcdonald's chicken sandwiches. And considering I was puking all the way through that pregnancy, anything I could face eating I was getting!

this time around it's even worse, I'm 23 weeks and desperately wanting cheesecake. Midwife says "no".
I say "yes!" (but no raw egg in the ones I chose)

But back on the "allowed list", this time I'm allowed curries, peanuts, and pineapple - all three of which I wasn't allowed at all last time.

honestly, our bodies know what we need. Your eggs are fresh, waaay fresher than supermarket ones, so honestly I wouldn't worry. but best to check, I'm sure last time around there was a limit to the number of eggs per week I was allowed too.

Its true i wish they would make up their minds (medical professionals) we never know from one pregnancy to the next what we can and cant eat! When i had my last liver was encouraged, but peanuts were a massive no no, now its the other way around GAHHHHHHHHH!

Hi to all, I am 14 weeks pregnant (almost 15 weeks) and i just cant resist a soft boiled egg or soft poached egg in the morning................surely our 'home grown' eggs dont have the same salmonella risks as store bought eggs?
I mean seriously an egg laid that morning, you cant get fresher so is there any real harm in it?
Opinions please!
i am not quite sure about the egg thing but congradulations!!!!
