Pregnant barn cat *update* We have kittens!

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers. Mom seems to be doing a little better. Some sad news when I talked to DH tonight. The smallest of Muffin's kittens didn't make it. He found it this evening when he checked on her. She had moved it to a corner of her nest box. I hate not being there,but caring for Mom takes precedence.

rrrmamma - So sorry to hear about the little one. Any more updates on your mom or Muffin and the remaining kittens?

She gets bigger every day. She's started throwing up some. I can feel at least 2 kittens. I've noticed what looks like dried up colostrum on and around her nipples? I can't think of what else it could be.

That darn cat will not even notice any birthing box I put in there! I've tried open boxes, enclosed boxes, boxes with blankets, boxes with newspaper. Nothing! I have another in there right now, but she climbed into it, sniffed around, licked it (weird ) and then climbed out. I put it in the corner she always lays in. Now that it's there she just lays in the middle of the room and whines at me when I walk into the room. "Why did you do that? Take that nasty box out of my corner!"

She can't get under the freezer anymore. We fixed that problem too. She's also whining about that... And because she's huge and uncomfortable.
So, she's basically, fat, whiny, nauseous, and lazy. As you would expect.

Sounds like Jack is getting close to having babies - and none to soon for either of you, I suspect! Do you think Jack would prefer just a blanket in her corner? Or maybe you could even just sheild the corner with a "curtain" and have a blanket back there - maybe Jack is a minimalist. After the babies arrive, you could either create a "box" around the nest or just put up low barriers to keep them in the area. I think I would be pulling my hair out through this and missing lots of work. Good luck to you both and I can't wait to hear about the babies when they arrive.

P.S. If she is throwing up very much, you could try feeding her very small meals throughout the day - assuming your schedule permits this.

I hope she has them soon! This weekend was around when we estimated she'd be giving birth.
I tried just a blanket in the corner. She liked that the best, but usually she just laid next to the blanket. I might try a "curtain" I was thinking about it last night when I put the new box out. Her box is under a table, because that's where she spends most of her time, so I could throw a blanket over it and make a tent like area for her. Then it would be really easy and quiet for me to peek in on her... hmm...

I'm desperately trying to find something she likes quickly because I don't know exactly when she will decide to have them. I just reeeeallly don't want her t give birth on say, our big rug, or the rocky, laundry room floor. That stuff hurts to walk on. I can't imagine putting a brand new kitten on it.

I really appreciate your suggestions. I need more ideas! I'm running out!

She has only thrown up twice. (that I know of)

She had the first one on the blanket .I moved the kitten to the box I had put inthe corner. She went right in and had the rest in the box. Is there a confined space you can put her in like a spare bathroom or bedroom? It was so hard to wait. She is doing great with the remaining 4 My husband said they opened their eyes today. By the time I get home from CA they will be bouncing around!

We have a really small bathroom that we don't use often. That might work... It has hard floor, but not rocky and no rugs! Maybe I can use that... The only problem is that my mom and youngest sister are allergic to cats. I guess that doesn't make much of a difference to her being in the laundry room, though. I'll weigh the pros and cons and present the situation to my mom. We'll see what she says.

yo grt our cats to have the babies in the "chosen" spot we fed them their everyday and NEVER went over their to mess around. We would also put the expectin momma in their a few times a day
