pregnant mare

i think shes in early labor...still just pacing. My wifes grandpa thinks sometime in the next week

Good Luck with her! She will have it when she is ready.

my gelding annoys the crap out of pregnant and nursing mares. he is always the babysitter and pasture mate for young horses and is very interested in them. the mammas hate that and we have to keep the gelding away for a while.

I laughed when I read this. A friend of mine has a gelding that is the same way. She has an expecting mare stalled and he has been getting out of the back pasture twice a day to check on her. None of the other horses are getting out and she has walked her fenceline everyday trying to figure out how he is escaping. She keeps finding him standing outside of the barn by the mares window.

I bet hes not sneaking threw but just jumping right over. for a horse that really wants to even a 6 foot fence is nothing. my guy was also gelded late, nearly 4. I half wonder if his behavior stems from some instinct to protect and keep safe the smaller and weaker heard members. my gelding was the same way with ponys as well.

if shes pacing and looking uncomfortable she may just be uncomfortable. I would make sure she has plenty of hay or pasture to munch on, plently of water, shade and privacy if she wants it. early labor can last for a very long time or it could be tomorrow, who knows.

yeah im working on putting a round bale of grass in her pen....just waiting on my guy to call me back

You could be right! Neither one of us thought of that!

well shes agitated tonight and is starting to bite her side. Maybe we will see something in the morning.

keeping fingers crossed!

You know when she is going to have it because she'll get hard clearish things on her teets. If you have other horses, be sure to keep them away cause they'll chase the colt etc.

she had some gunk on her teets 2 days ago. I looked and it had come out of her nipples and cleaned them out. We shall see what happens tommorrow. She is at the 4-H pens right now but theres not another horse in the pen next to her.
