This is a great site! Our family has had chickens off and on over the last 10 years but not since our move to NC. I am ready to be a chicken mom again. We want our fresh eggs. We have several neighbors with chickens and ducks and have plenty of room. I have a stack of pallets out back and a head full of ideas. I will be frugal and build our coop with mostly items we already have on hand and plan on getting started as soon as possible. We have never raised chicks and may just try to acquire some hens already laying. Our previous flocks were "inherited" from the homes we purchased. I do plan on having a separate area to be able to raise chicks or separate any birds that need a break in case of personality differences....will post pics of my progress as soon as possible.
