Preparing for my first flock

Welcome to BYC!

We're glad to have you.

Easter Egger, Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, Dominique, New Hampshire Red, and Silver Laced Wyandotte. Just ordered these gals for delivery during my birthday week in April. I was actually trying to get them for a month earlier...but perhaps this will make it all the more special. I included all of the children into the process. They picked their favorite girls from a pre-approved listing that I made from other chicken folks feedback and reviews that I have seen around. Everyone will name their chosen chick. I felt that would allow everyone to have a level of ownership and so far it is working. My 14 yo son who previously stated he didn't really care about the chickens has picked out the Buff Orpington and has already named her Penny. My 21 month old son is always pointing out the New Hampshire Red and I imagine her name will be Chicken. Now to get to moving on the coop...if only this rainy Northern California weather will cooperate on my husband's days off. Thanks for the support everyone.

I am already talking chicken with anyone that will listen. Hopefully the hubby won't make me sleep in the coop if I can not contain my excitement.

Welcome to BYC, sounds like your going to fit right in! Be careful though, it becomes a addiction and from the sounds of it you are in the beginning stages.
Sounds like you picked some good ones, all calm breeds and easy for the kids to help with. I used to have RIRs, but wanted a friendlier breed for the kids, then saw the EEgrs so we got them, wellsummers and brown leghorns.
The kids love the different colors of eggs.
