Hi! I'm new to BYC and this is my first year raising chickens. I currently own 3 baby chicks that are almost 3 weeks old. I am beginning to prepare the coop and thought how i am going to hang the feeder and waterer(I already purchased the hanging 1 gallon waterer and 7 pound feeder). Do any of you have a good idea? Thanks!

Hello! Are you wanting to have the food and water inside the actual coop or in the run/outside? I recommend outside. However, if inside, we screwed an eye hook into ceiling of coop to hang. Even though it is hanging, the food and water always gets filthy from the shavings and when they are drinking, water spills onto floor of coop. If we do not clean/dry this right away it can get really gross and will warp the floor of your coop. Good luck!

Thanks so much! I am definitely putting the water outside now. I am just worried about rodents getting into the water. Do you have that problem? I am not so worried about the food but the water will be a huge problem if it warps the coop. i still want it hanging in the run just to keep out dirt and bugs. Any suggestions like what type of rope? Thanks!

No problem! We've had chickens for about 3 years now but I'm new to BYC too, so I'm happy I was able to help! We have not encountered any rodent problems! We used a couple of carabiners and chain to hang them up!

Like a previous poster I use chain for all my hanging items. With a chain it's a simple matter to adjust up or down as your needs change
