Tomorrow we will say goodbye to a deputy, a friend, and more importantly, a father. Sgt. Eric Stein leaves behind a fiancee and a 9 year old daughter. May God watch over them during this difficult time.
Eric Stein hasn't been alone since he was shot and killed in the line of duty on Monday. His brothers and sisters in blue have been keeping 24 hour vigil, two at a time, in four hour shifts. Hundreds of American flags line the streets and highway from the high school where the funeral will be to the cemetary 10 miles away. The governor has ordered all flags to be flown at half staff from noon today until Monday morning.

There are expected to be hundreds of law enforcement officers from all over the state tomorrow to escort him on his final journey through the streets he once patroled. It is guaranteed to be an emotional day for sure.
So please remember the community of Keokuk county in your prayers, as well as Deputy Eric Stein's friends and family, as we say goodbye to a hero.
A Part Of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died...
A piece of our country he swore to protect
...Will be buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today...
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call... of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died...
God bless all the men and women who protect and serve...
