Can anyone please give me a suggestion for a small gift to give a 21 year old who is being deployed to Afganistan? His parents are hosting an open house for him before he goes. This is his 1st deployment. He is my husband's second cousin. He is 21.

I just Goodled "gifts military" and all kinds of website came up. I hope that helps. That is hard to be so far away from home.

Ask him to send you his address when he can and send him random care packages... candy, junk food, toiletries, games. It's nice to send holiday items ahead of time. I sent a christmas tree with decorations and gifts to a friend of mine last year, and a swimming pool with flip flops margarita mix and party favors for the fourth of July.

As far as one gift to give before he leaves... maybe a manicure kit? Those are always nice to have and sometimes hard to find.

I have a friend who was in Iraq and she was desperate for foot powder & arch support. Not sexy gifts, but much-needed.

Care packages would be very welcome, too.
