Prettiest chicken breeds and plumage color

From my flock, my prettiest conventional one is a half blue laced red wyandotte that looks exactly like a full one from what I can tell.

Being biased, I love my gold spangled Hamburg pullet the most. The Cockerel is meh but not ugly by any means. But as chicks, they are the most striking. I have a golden Deathlayer chick that comes close but still isn't as saturated in color.

I thought my white Brahma mix (I honestly wonder if she has Cochin in her, her feather on her feet as so thick) would be really pretty, but really she just has dirty legs and feet accentuated by the white feathers so that was a little disappointing.

I don't have any Russian orloffs but I love the look of them.

Just kind of depends. I've talked to a few breeders and while I like the golden breeds, it seems that those don't sell, so the silver types (like silver spangled Spitzhauben, etc) seem to sell better.

And strangely, the black and white ones....which, no shade, they can be nice but a whole flock of Dominiques or similar? For me that's boring.

Oh .... my! These are breathtaking! Are they recognized by the APA?
No, Ermine Ameraucanas are not currently recognized by the APA. as they are considered a project breed that is in the process of meeting the APA. She came from hatching eggs from eBay. I had really bad luck out of two sellers and 18 eggs I only got 3 chicks. She was the only Ermine color. I was fortunate enough to get a black ameraucana roo and a white Ameraucana hen in the same hatch. I plan to breed and hatch more next spring in hopes the get more so I can breed Ermine to Ermine. Maybe in the future I'll have hatching eggs.

White x black = Erminette?
White roo over black hen = ALL erminette chicks?
  • For 100% Ermine: Breed a Black Ameraucana rooster with a Dominant White Ameraucana hen.

    • For a Mixed Flock: A Black Ameraucana rooster over Ermine hens will produce approximately 50% Ermine, 25% black, and 25% Dominant White chicks.
    • Using Ermine to Ermine Matings: While it's not the most predictable method, you can breed Ermine to Ermine to maintain the variety, but you will get a mix of all three colors.
