Splash is part of blue genetics (BBS). Recessive white "hides" other colors and the father carried blue.
This pairing had several other chicks of the same cross and every one of them was blue.
Chicken genetics are fascinating!

This is Bluebell, our 6 month old EE.
(She was not keen on being photographed)
She has a severe (>90 degree) cross beak and we have to feed her by hand. She is more likely to win a "weirdest-looking" rather than prettiest chicken, but she is still alive and is a normal size finally, so we are pretty proud!

That crossbeak is so cool! And I love her colors!
