~~Prettiest Sebright CONTEST~~

Skitz, you are not a bad chicken owner.

A fence is the best you can do if you have limited funds. You might try running barbed wire around the top of your fence if you can find some cheap. Dogs tend to shy away from jumping over something that hurts them. Who do the dogs belong to? If you know who the owners are, I would pay them a visit. The first time, be as nice and pathetic as possible when you tell them your story, just in case they don't know that their dogs are serial killers in their off time (some people don't even know that the dogs are leaving the yard). Then, if you continue to have chicken slaughters, go marching up to their house and tell them that if they don't keep THEIR dogs on THEIR property, that you will go legal on them. They're wasting your time and funds on new birds (not to mention the trauma of losing a bunch of hand-raised birds

). Isn't it called "destruction of personal property"?

(edit: didn't see the post that said they were strays and family pets

. So, disregard everything I just said about if the dogs had owners, lol. Still, see if you can get some barbed wire and you might try some deer fence if you get the money saved up.

Good luck, and never give up!

and yes one of the dogs that killed some of my chickens was my neighbors dog....I complained, but they didn't care. Then one random day I was just looking through a window in my room just to see what my chickens were doing and then all of a sudden my neighbor gets in my backyard and TWISTED the neck of one of my chickens! obviously the chicken did die and she just went back to her property. We called the cops and they ended up moving to another house down the block.

OMG, I HATE people like that! (A lot of choice names for her are rolling through my head right now

) That woman does't DESERVE any living animals. It's not like your chickens were MAKING her dog kill them!

she also raised chickens! the dumpster is right were her chickens are so every time I went to throw out the trash she would always come out. One day she thought that I was doing something to her chickens so she told me that she was going to get electric fence (they didn't have a gate so anyone could enter their property) and I said "ok". Then the next day she supposedly already placed the electric fence and I touched it and nothing happened she just got really mad lol I laughed and went back inside then a few days later they moved.

Is it too late? I would like to share my rooster

I BET she was a little paranoid about you being close to her chickens! She was worried about retaliation, or the "Eye for an Eye" tactic. My grandma heavily frowns upon other people's dogs (and the people themselves) coming on to her property and killing her animals. She would have probably shot the dog after the incident with her killing your chicken. If I wasn't so faint at heart, I would be the same way, but the dog can't help it if it has a bad owner. We had 3 dogs come in the yard and kill 2 of my favorite chickens on day and I couldn't do a thing to stop it. I was even out there, but I couldn't out run that pitbull

. I never did find out who the owner was. I plotted bloody vengence for my fallen chickens for a whole week afterward (especially while I tried desperatly to save Blacky, who suffered for 4 days until she died of shock), only to realize that I used to cry when I was little over dead butterflys in the road. Needless to say, their was no way I could shoot the dogs and live with my self.

and yes it sucks you can't do anything otherwise you'll regret it over time. Even if I felt like I had to kill her chickens (lol I was that mad that I wanted revenge) I didn't do it 'cause I couldn't live with myself and btw they were innocent! so you and I did the right thing

because clearly they're not the problem, the owners are.
