Pretty baby, any guesses?

This buff nugget is around seven weeks old, I think--it's just starting to get some actual feathering. I'd love it to be a hen, since it's such a snuggle buddy, but the little bit of comb is making me have roo vibes.

I read the guidelines for taking good pictures, but I'll be honest: aside from actually handling the chick, I can't figure out how to make it stay out. I assumed a clear pic in the hand was better than a blurry one while it's on the floor or in a box or something. I didn't realize that I had already put it back in the brooder cage, and now the lights are out. I can take more photos tomorrow without flash, if that's needed.

7 weeks old is young for male specific feathering, but the early comb development makes me lean cockerel.

I'd actually say this little one is closer to 5 to 6 weeks old. Typically they'd be fully feathered by 7 weeks. Maybe I'm wrong but my chicks looked like this around 5 weeks old.

Either way, it's a little too early to confirm gender. If you could re-post pics in another couple weeks, that would be great.

Thank you! I am absolutely possibly wrong with the age--got it from a small local feed store, so I didn't hatch it myself (really, really wanted a buff one). They said "a few weeks old" but no specifics.

I'll wait a bit and get more pics and ask again.
