Pretty hen, but what kind of hen??

I said usually! All Easter Eggers are mutts but not all mutts are Easter Eggers. I only posted because I have never seen one that didn't and even the Easter Egger Club of America states that they usually have pea combs.

Ok OK.... LOL it's not that big of a deal yall', I am not sure as to the color of her eggs as she has not started to lay yet (about 20 weeks or so old at the most). I plan to put her with a roo though as I would like to continue with this color (for my application). What kind of roo and what color should he be to keep this look????? I have one more similar to her but only remotely similar. I guess the best guess would be mutt as I am not sure that they actually bred any particular kind of chicken, I know they have a bunch and wanted some dirt work done I worked out a deal for 30 chicks from their incubator and I would do the work for them. Not bad considering it cost me about 10 bucks worth of diesel and then they fed me hamburgers on the grill!!! At any rate thanks for the replies and maybe tomorrow I can get a picture of the other one that looks similar to her and you can tell me your best guess on her too.

SteveP I think that was a fantastic deal! I love my crosses - love my "pures" also - but my crosses seem to get the best of both parents (mostly

).

KandJsmama I am sorry

You are very correct, not all mutts are EE - some of mine are Orp/Dels (who I like to call Orpinwares

). I was just trying to explain how it can happen - it interests me alot - the interaction of crossing combs (how the pea grows out when crossed with straight, etc).

Just to let you know, the Easter Egger Club of America does not exist. That site was created as a joke.

So anyone have any ideas on breeding???

Really want to keep the ginger color to her feathers but also really trying to keep the mottled almost barred look as well, not opposed to purchasing a roo for her and her pretty little friend just really trying to keep the color and look.

I agree she is a EE.. As for keeping her coloration, look into Red Quill, Ginger Red, and Quail. Ginger red = a lighter coloration, Red Quill is close but may give them a few more black dots (though then again, it may be perfect), and Quail will make it darker. Remember she is a EE though, she may have other colors which may pop out when she is bred.

I honestly am not good at genetics. I have a splash Orpington Roo I have been crossing over my EEs - generally I get blue based birds (blue, blue with red leakage) but I did get this girl pop up - she has become even more red in the body as she gets closer to POL:

She is out of the hen on the right:

Maybe a buff or red based bird

I also agree with DTchickens being EE can make her color genetic background a hard one to nail down.

Love that second picture the hen on the left is very similar to what i am looking for after breeding, just trying to stay closer to the more ginger like color (not sure what you call that color in chicken talk LOL). Thanks for all the great replies yall'.
