Hi! This is sort of a “just for fun”post, but I’m also curious because I thought he was quite striking and beautiful. If he’s a recognizable breed that would be nice - I definitely wouldn’t mind having one like him in the future! But if he’s probably just a mix, well, then I’ll have to just appreciate his uniqueness. 🤣

To clarify, this isn’t my rooster (considered for a brief moment taking him home with me, but the last thing I need is a rooster of unknown origin/temperament/health lol), he is part of a bachelor flock of roosters at our local dump that’s across from a feed store. It’s kind of sad but people just dump their excess roosters over there.

Anyway, here he is! I just loved his coloring and his feathered feet. The blonde-ish over black hackle feathers really looks nice to me. I’m not a chicken whiz when it comes to breed identification, so I thought I’d give it a shot here. Any guesses?

Marans, Brahmas and Cochins are the top 3 feathered legged breeds that come to mind. His base color is blue so I looked at blue varieties of those 3 breeds and the Blue Copper Marans rooster looks like the closest match.

Check out the Blue Copper Marans rooster here: https://www.mypetchicken.com/produc...lY-EAHvZmpSGwFAkbBCB7YwW-EZHmbne81950du70JgNz

Obliviously he could be a mix of any of these as well as other breeds I haven't thought of but looks pretty close.

He's Blue Birchen Marans, classed different due to Silver color.
Black, or Blue Copper Marans are still Birchen, but are based on Red/Mahogany.

Stunning!!! Great to know. Both are very nice looking, after googling I see the difference between the red vs silver coloring. Never heard of birchen before, but that must have been the term I was missing to describe this blondish/silvery look I love in some of the roosters I’ve seen lately! Time for me to go look up more chicken colors, lol! Thank you!! :woot

Where I live there’s also a dump across from a tractor supply where people abandon their roosters (many of which are probably bought from the tsc as chicks). Unfortunately, any rooster that ends up outside of the dump is never seen again, probably because they have no food or predator protection out there. Was he the only one in the parking lot?
