Hi,
I am new to the boards and new to chickens. We have had a flock of 7 healthy adults for about a month. Today my husband bought 5 more year old sex-link chickens from a local "trader". Shouldnt have done that...I already know....Okay well the deal is done and 3 of the 5 are doing fine, 1 is a little slow acting but seems fine for the minute. I have 1 in the house, in a barrel of hay covered in blankets. It rained today, started on there trip to my house. Best I can figure is the birds were new to the "trading station" but probly stayed a night or 3, then they get loaded into the back of our truck and it rains on them on the way home. So "sale barn atmosphere", wet/cool truck ride home...equals sick/dying chicken.
We are not new to livestock but new to chickens and I have been as nice as I can be to sweet hubby for impulsively buying from a dealer.
Ok, so what am I looking at...as far as disease in a "sale barn" type chicken? and what do I give the chicken?
I have made a liquid that I have been giving her SLOWLY from a dropper. It has probiotic and grapeseed oil, a little vitamin B and a small amount of yogurt with live cultures. I have on hand apple cider vinegar with "the mother" and electrolytes. Probly some other stuff as I am into natural health, but not against using meds when needed. Oh and I did put a little bit of medicated chic started in the liquid. She has eaten a few of those, not many. Her comb is very pale and she is cold, now, was cold earlier thne got warm, now cold again.
The new chicken are seperated from the established flock...though I would throw that in there.
HELP! and thank you so much in advance.
