Pretty sure my house is haunted

Kerr, your daughter has the gift, kinda like "The Ghost Whisperer", which I hope is a positive experiance for her. There is so much in life that we as meer human will never understand. I hope that she will always be sensitive, as in hearing the spirits. I hope she never becomes a skeptic and is open to all this world and beyond has to offer her. Laura

Nuke it from orbit! It is the only way to be sure.

But in all seriousness, interesting story. And good looking house. This could be an X-Files episode!

Kerr, here it is, and I have goose bump as I type this. In 1982 My ex and I moved from Raeford NC to Sanford NC. We rented a big farm house and live there about a month before the strange things started happening. One night My ex woke with what he described as a heavy pressure on his chest. We started seeing something shoot up the stairs. We had a small door leading to the attic on the upstairs landing that we would find open every morning, we always shut it at night. My ex nailed it shut, the next morning it was open. My DD was afraid to sleep in her room, she saw shadows. It was winter and we had a wood stove in the living room and kept the door closed, I would cook dinner and bring the plates in to everyone so I would have to kick the door to get the ex to open it for me. One night we were eating and the house ghost ( as it was so named ) kicked the door, we were all in the room. I was going to give my kids their baths one night and was going upstairs to get their PJ's, when I started up the stairs I heard my name called, the kids slept in their underwear that night. I always had a creepy feeling in the house as if something was watching me. A friend's aunt came from Lenoir NC and blessed the house, and it stopped for awhile, then it started up again, she told us to never give it a name as it would follow us . I took my kids and left my ex with the house. I'm hope I didn't bore anyone to death with this. There is so much more to it than this, maybe another time I'll go in to more detail. Laura

Oh Kerr, I just love your house, ghosts and all!

I just love old houses with a lot of character!

(And with the ghosts, you can count on a lot of characters!)

What a great home! I love all the pictures. Spooky story though. I've never seen or heard a ghost before but if I did, I think I would jump out of my skin! I don't think I would feel safe in the dark.

Guess I'm just chicken

cool house....guess i wouldnt worry about ghosts if they're arent trying to harm you or your family.

My aunt told me a strange story about her house today. she lives in the house she grew up in and she was living there taking care of my grandfather before he died.

She told me that my cousins son, my aunts grandson was lying next to her in her bed and lookin up and he kept saying " hi jean! hi jean!" he's only 2. The strange thing is my grandmothers name was Jean, it's like he talks to her...she died before he was born.

So i said maybe he was saying something else and she said "nope, he does it at different times in other parts of the house."

kinda creepy

Thats awesome
The hair is standing up on my neck
Your house ghost sounds alot more busy or kinda angry....I notice things moved around my house all the time that I can't explain but if I nailed one of my doors shut and it kept opening - I think I might cry.
We have yet to finish the 4th bedroom (it has no electricity in it right now - infact its gutted - you walk into the room and look up - you can see right into the attic.

I didn't know you weren't supposed to name them but thats good to remember.
Unfortunately our house Ghost told my daughter his name...kinda wishing he didn't now.

Lovely house!

I live in a 300-year-old farmhouse, which is definitely haunted.

Weeknights, usually Tuesdays or Thursdays, between 7:30 and 8:30, I can hear the front door open and close, and someone walking and talking quietly (men's voices) in the parlor. The first few times, I thought it was DH coming home early. Nope, when I went downstairs, all was quiet and locked up tight. Can be heard from other rooms, too, and the creepiest was when I was in the kitchen, which has a door on the parlor. Literally, I was sure DH was no more than 5 feet behind me, it was that clear, and I actually said "hey, how was work" before I turned around and realized no one was there.

At 7:30-8:00, other nights, if I'm out in the backyard for any reason, a man walks across the lawn from the back door of the house towards the back garden. He wears a dark shirt or jacket, short pants (those kind that stop around the knees), and has shoulder-length hair. Again, first time I saw it out of the corner of my eye, I thought it was DH in his baggy shorts and told him to go get me some more clothespins.

My dog sees him too and freaks out, he goes nuts with growling and barking.

And then there are the weird smells. Ham, even though there hasn't been a ham baked here in over a year, but unmistakably ham, all through the house. Smell of a fire in summer, when the weather has not changed and there's no wind blowing through the chimneys or anything. Kerosene, even though we keep our antique kerosene lamp empty.

Kerr your home is beautiful and the history so interesting. I loved looking at the pictures. I do beleive in all of it, there is so much unexplainable. I myself have never lived in a haunted home but do know others that have and for some reason they are usually very old farmhouses. Why who knows but these are people that I would not hesitate to believe. New England has alot of very old historical homes rich in documented history with cases so similar to yours where children have come up with names etc. that they would have no way of knowing in a million years. Unexplainable but true.
I hope you and your family enjoy your wonderful home for many years to come.

I love your house. Yes, I believe in ghost. When we first moved to Perry we rented a house until we found the right house for us. While we were in the rental house our DD, who was 16, told us that there was a ghost cat in her room. She said that the first time she noticed it was one morning while she was getting ready for school she felt a cat rub against her leg, but thought nothing of it as we had a cat and she just thought some how it had gotten in her room. The next time was in the middle of the night, She felt something jump on her bed so she looked and didn't see anything. The next time was also in the middle of the night when She again felt something jump on her bed, but this time when She looked she saw a cat on the foot of her bed just looking at her. This happened off and on til we moved, but before we moved my son was in the back yard looking in the over grown shrubs and found a grave marker for a cat named Ling. The woman that originally owned the house worked at the water board and was there one time when my DH paid the water bill and He ask her if there had been a cat in the house. She said yes that her Daughter had had a cat and it had gotten hit by the school bus one morning, but it stayed at night in the room with her daugther which was the same room my DD had. That was the only room my DD saw the cat in.
