PREVENTING mites.

I am sure this has been addressed somewhere but all I am finding is how to TREAT not PREVENT. I have a 4-6 week old silkie that is going to be a house chicken. But I am wanting to take him outside to peck and scratch around . The problem is the entire time I am thinking...."is she getting mites? How about now? I bet they are on her by now..." then I just can't take it and we go back inside. What can I do to prevent mites so that I can feel more comfortable letting my "baby" play outside? This little one hss yotally turned me into a nervous "first time" mom. Thanks in advance.
