This was sitting in the tree watching my chickens this morning.

Then this flew onto a nearby branch. They had a stare down for about 15 seconds and the first one flew off.

The first is a hawk, right? What about the second?

Yes, the first is a hawk, the 2nd is a woodpecker.

I think the second one is a flicka. If so, it prefers insects. It's probably trying to get farther south in this weather.
