Price of chicks.

Prices went up and so did shipping cost... Was gonna order chicks but ill just get them at tsc for $1 when they dont sell lol
Question: I've considered getting older chicks that haven't sold and end up discounted like that. What is your opinion on how well they socialize to humans? I like raising young chicks and handling them to socialize them, but was curious about saving both on purchasing and on letting someone else partially raise them.

I’ve bought ducklings at big R once every year when I first bought them, I paid eight dollars per duckling the second year nine and the year after that ten. Inflation. And where I live it’s been about $10-$11 per dozen of eggs so I’m sure a lot of people have been buying chicks lately. I know egg prices are different depending on where you live, but it’s been pretty high where I am. Colorado enforced a law that said all of the eggs we get have to have be from free ranged chickens… prices have skyrocketed.

Depends on the breeds. Ive raised a ton of breeds and to me muffed birds were more skittish then orps or speckled sussex. Now i raise wyandottes and silkies with a few easter eggers but those are my own lines now. I havent bught chicks in years but might need to get new blood this year

I might go a bit out of my way to get a rare breed, or something that is hard to find in my area, but yeah overall it’s just “hmm, the local farm store might have some unsold Plymouth Barred Rocks…….. time to check the store’s Facebook.”
