I supply a market here with chicks..they buy them from me for $2 and sell them for $4 as day olds. I think a lot has to do with the feed costs and what it costs to keep the adults that produce the hatching eggs, which turn into the chicks.

I have only once bought chicks from a feed store. Last year they were $6.00 and you had to buy 6. I don't know what the price is this year.

Mamaboyd, I'm pretty sure I saw 'em listed on the flyer at our local feed store for $1.20 apiece straight run (CornishX or 'Bonnie's Heavy Red')

Also, in the 2008 pricelist for Performance Poultry (www.performancepoultry.com) CornishX are listed as$1.45 straight run, less if you buy >10. You might see about that -- the guy is in Carrying Place, which is not *too* awful far away from you, perhaps 1.5 hrs?

well here I paid $2.30 for RIR and $3.00 for silkies.

Thanks PatandChickens. I also got a catalogue from MillPond Hatcheries in Grafton, which is even closer, and they are selling their white rock meat chicks for $1.10 per chick.
I need to give then a call to see how much they want for their barred plymouth rock chicks and a few other types that I would like to get as well, unless can fins someone around here with fertilized eggs that I can attempt o hatch on my own with an incubator.

I've been paying between $1 and $1.50 for chicks. I've gotten EE's, Golden comets, RIR, SLW, GLW, Cochin, BR, SL, Brown LH, Jersey Giants. I did pay $2.09 for 2 silkies at TSC. The $1 were straight run, and the $1.50 were pullets

Our Rural King had heavy breed, straight run, for .99. Then, last week they were on sale for .75 each.
Thats how I ended up with 20 instead of 10.

Do you have a local CO-Op Pat?? If so, they might have a List from MillPonds saying what they have and what the delivery days are etc, I got mine from our Orono CO-Op when I picked up the Frey's price list.
