Sarabi was sitting in her den, her belly round with a cub. Suddenly, a pain shot through her belly. "Hemaki!" she called. "Hemaki, I think he's coming!"
Midnight also came in. Sarabi was suddenly protective. Hundreds of years of the threat of males killing cubs went to her head. She had seen Midnight around cubs, but didn't trust Hemaki around her cub. "Hemaki," she growled low. "Get out, now"
Midnight backed up next to Hemaki. "Just do what she says. It's instinct" he whispered.
