I've been skeptical for a little while that one of our Pekins, Princess, should actually be called Prince..... She's the biggest, clearly has always been the ring leader, has a raspy quack compared to the other two, etc. I think it was confirmed today as "she" was mounting the other ducks & in general just being obnoxious pecking them & chasing them. He might even have a tail feather that is starting to curl. These are our first ducks..... We were planning on getting some Khaki Campbells this next week to eventually add to the flock but is that ok now that it seems we have a drake? I haven't seen Khakis but I know that they aren't as big as Pekins so will it be ok for him to mate with them? I'm assuming that he would want to. We have the one surprise drake, 2 females & would plan to get 3 female Khakis. Thoughts? Advice? We keep them for eggs though they haven't started laying just yet.

We had the opposite problem. K/c drake hurting Pekin hen. He kept tearing up her neck and pulling out her feathers. Please forgive my bluntness but I believe it was out of frustration that he could not hit the right spot. K/C are small but if the Pekin is a gentleman it should not be a problem.I think you will be alright because you have enough to keep him busy and it won’t be a problem until spring.

He better be a gentlemen! I raised him right lol. He doesn't seem to be very rough with the Pekins I have. Just climbs on top & sometimes nibbles a little. I think I'll go for it as it wouldn't be too difficult for us to keep them separate if we needed to. They wouldn't be together for quite a while anyway.
