Private Message Limit

I understand the need but I agree with previous posts that more info would be extremely helpful. If you are expecting new members to engage in a meaningful way some communication coming to us clarifying that expectation is necessary. This should include the consequences if we don't meet these expectations.

Alright, on to my actual question...

Like most others here I am trying to communicate with some sellers. I didn't notice the message limit until I had sent and then re-sent a message (thinking that I had not pushed submit). Will the system send my messages once enough time has passed? Also, does this restrict my ability to receive messages from them as well? Do I have replies from them waiting in a queue that will become available once enough time has passed?

I did read the how to be a good BYC citizen and while the document did encourage participation I don't recall information on this specific issue (message limits). Is there information somewhere here or should I continue to post questions here to up my numbers?

Hi And
welcome-byc.gif

Just go over to the New Member section
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/44/new-member-introductions
and welcome a bunch of folks to BYC. It's easier to do that then worrying about why
the limit is low. There is always something we can share with others to make them
feel welcome, regardless of how long we have been on BYC.
Jump right in !

Thanks for the feedback! We're always looking for ways to improve the site and ease-of-use.

Regarding your specific questions:

Will the system send my messages once enough time has passed? - No, the messages are unfortunately not queued up and sent later. You would need to send the PMs the next day.

Also, does this restrict my ability to receive messages from them as well? - No, this restriction is only on new members ability to send. This helps to reduce the potential damage spammers can do when they join the site.

Do I have replies from them waiting in a queue that will become available once enough time has passed? - No, you will be able to receive unlimited PMs from senders.

Perhaps raising the limit to 4 or 5? This way it still limits spammers but newbies like us could be able to participate a little more. Sometimes it can take a while to feel comfortable posting, it can be intimidating on a new site. I personally took months before signing up.

It doesn't take many posts to get out of that "new member" status so you can start to send PM's. And there are sections of the forums that newbies really fit in like the New Members section. You are new and so are they! So feel free to welcome in some of our New Members. It will give you more confidence in posting and also let the other newbies feel more comfortable. In no time you will have enough posts to use all of BYC to your advantage.

I think of it as we were all new once. I too felt a little intimidated when I first started but once you get posting its gets better and your confidence builds. You get to know people and make friends. I've made quite a few already and never thought I would. TwoCrows has given you some great advice she's a legend true backyard friend!!

Before you know it I'm sure you will have a large post count, it creeps up on you pretty quick.
Enjoy BYC :hugs
